  • Why RatifyNow?

"We see this as a chance for the world to no longer think of people with disabilities as 'the ruin of what has been dreamt' but rather imagine using the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities so that we can, with supports, become our own dreams."

  • Senate Sign-on Letter

Our Goal for the U.S.:  We hope to persuade the new president to sign the treaty shortly after taking office in January, 2009.  After that, we’ll need to persuade two-thirds of the Senate to ratify the treaty – and we hope to accomplish this as quickly as possible.  We’re starting our outreach to Congress on June 3rd, and we need your help to show Congress that U.S. ratification of the treaty has the backing of people with disabilities and our allies.

Please help us by persuading your organization to sign our letter in support of U.S. ratification.  Download the letter here:  Page 1; Page 2.  We will be handing it out to Congress and the press at our Congressional briefing on June 3, 2008 in the U.S. Capitol.

To sign the letter, please contact Michele Magar before June, 2008 at michele.magar@RatifyNow.org.  Please note that we are seeking organizational signatures only.  We urge individuals who support U.S. ratification to sign AAPD’s online petition.

We’re closer than you think!  We’re happy to report that both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have stated that they will sign the treaty if they are elected president.  John McCain has not stated his position on U.S. ratification of the treaty.

Thanks for your help – together we can help ensure that our nation joins the fight to eradicate discrimination based on disability throughout the world.
